Джеймс Едгар Денді (Престон, Ланкашир, 24 вересня 1903 — Трінг, Гартфордшир, 10 листопада 1976) — британський ботанік, хранитель (англ. Keeper of Botany) Британського музею природознавства у 1956–1966 роках. Він був фахівцем світового рівня з вивчення рослин роду Potamogeton та родини Magnoliaceae.

Біографія

Денді здобув освіту у Preston Grammar School, а після цього у Даунінг-коледжі Кембриджського університету, де він отримав диплом бакалавра мистецтв. У 1925 році він був призначений асистентом Джона Гатчінсона в Королівських ботанічних садах в К'ю, який працював над новою класифікацією покритонасінних. Він дав Денді можливість переглянути три таксони, один з яких Magnoliaceae. У 1927 році він став членом Лондонського Ліннеївського товариства. 11 липня того ж року, він був призначений асистентом другого класу відділу ботаніки Британського музею природознавства. Він працював тут аж до своєї відставки у 1966 році. У 1936 році він був переведений на посаду асистента першого класу, у 1946 році став основним науковим співробітником, а у 1956 він зрештою став Хранителем ботаніки. Після виходу на пенсію, він продовжував активну діяльність у галузі ботаніки, до серйозної хвороби у липні 1976 року.
