Sorry, I don't speak Ukrainian, so I have to write in English. In your info box you write that Erinaceus roumanicus is an synomym for Erinaceus concolor. unfortunately you use obsolete informations; around 2002 most of the work was done and the current knowledge about the hedgehogs recognizes E. concolor and E. roumanicus as two distinct species, e.g. Mammal Species of the World Version 3 (E. concolor), ITIS (sorry, no link, search is not working :)) or the IUCN (http://www.iucnredlist.org/apps/redlist/details/136344/0 Erinaceus roumanicus]). would anyone be so kind to correct the article? (I don't want to just delete the line in the taxobox), maybe the range map File:Range Erinaceus concolor and Erinaceus roumanicus.png could be helpful when updating the article. thanks, Rbrausse 23:37, 23 березня 2010 (UTC)[відповісти]

I can speak Ukranian :) and should explain this situation. The majority of articles here are prepared by amateurs and enthusiasts, not professional zoologists. Certainly, in Ukraine, the supergroup "europaeus" is presented by species E. roumanicus. Up to 2000 we identified this hedgehog as "concolor", but after the splitting (mentioned by You) of this species on 2 new ones, we have changed the nomenclature of the Ukrainian hedgehogs, see.: http://terioshkola.org.ua/en/fauna/taxalist.htm (Igor, 3.04.2010)

thank you, your explanation was really informative! (and to be honest: I'm not even an amateur in biology, it was more or less an accident that I wrote the article about E. roumanicus in the German wikipedia and started to take a look at the interwikis :) Rbrausse 16:47, 5 квітня 2010 (UTC)[відповісти]
o.k. I will send You original photo of E. roumanicus prepared by my friend. Few hours ago I had placed few original images (Ellobius & Plecotus), but "robot" informs me, that I didn't indicated "licenses". I can't understand this task... I have only first steps in wikki. please, let me know on zoozag#ukr.net.
oh yes, licensing isn't fun.... the main point is that the pictures needs a license that permits (nearly) everything, including commercial usage. the easiest way is Creative Commons - normally I choose this. altogether, uploading to commons isn't really hard - the most important thing is that you are the creator of the picture or the author/photographer grants the open source license.
as a short check list:
  • ask your friend if he is fine with the idea, that his picture can be used from everyone, including that someone can sell his work
  • go to http://commons.wikipedia.org, select in the menu "Upload File" and in the opening frame near to the bottom "Main Upload Form" (direct link is http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Upload - I never used the other assistants, no idea how they are working)
  • the form is more or less self explaining, a target file name like "Erinaceus roumanicus.jpg" would be nice (easier to find)
  • the important parts:
    • Source: something like "taken by [insert name of photographer]"
    • Author: if the photographer uploads the file him- / herself just "taken by me" or similar, if not the name
    • Description: normally I just write the scientific name and a link to the article, e.g. "Picture of ''Erinaceus roumanicus'' ([[:en:Northern White-breasted Hedgehog]])" - and I'm too lazy to add description in other languages, though English is not my preferred one :)
    • Permission: if you are the author leave it empty, otherwise ask the photographer to send an email to the helpdesk, described here (as said before - in my opinion Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported is the best possability) and add to the box the OTRS-pending thing (copy&paste from below the field)
    • Select the correct one, the one I mentioned above is called "Attribution ShareAlike 3.0"
    • Categories: Click on the "+"-sign and enter "Erinaceus roumanicus".
upload and done. I hate the procedure - don't hesitate to contact me if you need further assistance (and I will send you this a email). Greetings, Rbrausse 20:21, 5 квітня 2010 (UTC)[відповісти]
