Альберт Гюнтер (нім. Albert Karl Ludwig Gotthilf Günther; 3 жовтня 1830 — 1 лютого 1914) — німецький та британський зоолог.

Життєпис[ред. | ред. код]

У 1857 році почав працювати у Британському музеї як іхтіолог. У 1875 році обійняв посаду хранителя відділу зоології Британського музею після смерті Джона Едварда Ґрея. Гюнтера вважають другим найпродуктивнішим систематиком рептилій (після Джорджа Альберта Буленджера) з описом понад 340 видів рептилій[2][3].

Основною його публікацією є Catalogue of Fishes (1859–1870). Він також досліджував плазунів та земноводних у музейних колекціях. У 1864 році він заснував Record of Zoological Literature та працював редактор протягом шести років[4]. Також він був одним із редакторів журналу Annals and Magazine of Natural History понад тридцять років[5]. У своїй визначній роботі з анатомії гатерії[6] він був першим, хто встановив, що рептилія гатерія не була ящіркою, а фактично єдиним живим представником абсолютно нової групи рептилій, яку він назвав Rhynchocephalia[7].
