Mesostigmatophyceae — це клас базальних зелених водоростей, які зустрічаються в прісній воді[3][4][5]. У вузькому обмеженні клас містить один рід, Mesostigma[6]. Потім AlgaeBase розміщує замовлення в межах свого околиці Charophyta[1]. Кладу, що містить Chlorokybus і Spirotaenia, можна додати[7][8][9][10][11][12] або розглядати як сестринську, а Chlorokybus помістити в окремий клас, Chlorokybophyceae[13]. У широкому розумінні Mesostigmatophyceae можна вважати сестрами всіх інших зелених водоростей або сестрами всіх Streptophyta[14][15][16].
